The model for Aloha was a Tivoli showgirl
and the rug to her left was made by Rose Lindsay out of scraps
of material cut into
strips and pulled through a net. This type of material was called
Milanese silk, a fine warp-knit fabric with interlocking stitches,
made from silk or (now) rayon. Fancy pyjamas made out of this material
during the 1930s were very popular. The original etching is extremely
rare as the edition is only fifteen. |
